Shelby County High Point Trip Report

I attempted to obtain this highpoint but encountered access problems.
The road to the summit of Signal Mountain is fairly easy to find. From Birmingham, go south on US 280
to the Shelby County 43 junction. Follow the signs to Van Diver. Follow paved road for 5.7 miles to
Season Road, which is just past the Pleasant Site Church. Season Road is the gravel road shown on the
topo. Pass two small bridges, take left fork in road. (The right fork does not show on the topo - it goes to
some houses.) The road will begin to climb, and there is another fork. Again, the left fork is the road to
the summit, the right fork (again, not on the topo) goes to houses. The road is gated and signed. I was
able to get contact information. Bill Jacobs (reigning Alabama King) will be attempting to contact the
landowner and secure permission.
