Humboldt County Highpoint Trip Report

I was able to get Humboldt in on a Saturday after a really LONG drive (12 hours) from my home in eastern Washington. The road, highway 96 that goes from I-5 to Orleans, is one long effort. I'd hate to drive that at night. No gas stations in over 100 miles of a very curvy and windy road. The first gas is at Orleans where you pick up a wilderness permit from the ranger station. Aaron Maizlish's report as well as Gary Suttle's directions to the TH are right-on.

Salmon Mountain is a nice hike of 7 miles roundtrip with less than 2000 feet of gain and I was fortunate to have really nice weather. I saw no one else on this perfect Saturday which was a shame because that area is neat.

The paved road is very narrow in places and I'm wondering if they still log that area during the week. I'd hate to meet a logging truck on it.
