Bent County High Point Trip Report

There are seven possible HP areas for this county, on both sides of CO hwy. 109. I climbed the south areas first. The caprock of the mini-mesa is a cliff on the west side, but east of the mesa's north tip is a break in the cliff. I wandered over the flat top to my satisfaction and returned to my car for refreshment. The remaining possible areas, mini-mesas, are arranged in a "C" shape.

I climbed up to the bottom of the "C" and then followed the ridges to each of the areas. The 6th area, near the top of the "C", featured several standing rocks, spires, among the pine and juniper trees, an extra challenge in sorting out the highest point.

After climbing the 7th area I dropped down, crossed the open, concave, part of the "C" and climbed over a saddle in the lower part of the "C" - instead of going around the lower end - to get back to my car.
