Las Animas County High Point Trip Report

West Spanish Peak (13,626 ft)

Date: October 8, 1995
Author: David Olson

I started from Cordova/Apishapa Pass. There was little snow on West Spanish Peak - more on Trinchera Peak. The weather was fine, the hike was very nice, first by trail along 2 miles of meadow-ridge, then up the forested buttress and finally above treeline up the boulder heaps of the buttress to the top.

The view from on top of West Spanish Peak was magnificent. From on top, at 13,626 ft, I could see Little Costilla Pk. NM, just as yesterday I saw West Spanish Pk. from Little Costilla Pk.
