Harris County High Point Trip Report

A fork leaves GA 190 at the Harris-Merriwether county line. The road goes about a mile to the Dodwell Knob picnic area. The view (and grill built by FDR) was a favorite spot of the former president who visited the area 41 times between 1924-1945. His love of ease and desire to share the spot with others prompted the building of the road in 1937. The picnic area is open 8 to 5 all year with extended hours until 8 pm from April 1 to September 30.

Although the precise summit is not obvious, my wandering looking for highest ground brought me directly to a spot where I paused, noted a small cement block, and brushed leaves off of BM Roosevelt (dated 1930). I wandered a bit more, but eventually decided the BM must be the highest spot. It is 50 paces into the woods uphill from the first picnic table.
