Lumpkin County High Point Trip Report

Blood Mtn

We really enjoyed Blood Mountain, parking in the day-hikers parking lot just north of the AT crossing on Highway 19/129. I'm not sure if the area on the east or west side of the shelter is higher, so we hit both. This mountain has a better view than Walker county and Brasstown Bald (visible to the northeast) in my opinion, with great views to the north, east, and south. There were two forest fires visible on Cedar Ridge a few miles southwest. We also saw several forest fires just northwest of Chattanooga (next to the interstate) and on the plateau north of Monteagle Mountain.
