Paulding County High Point Trip Report

BM York (1,400+ ft)

Date: April 8, 2000
Author: Fred Lobdell

The high point of Paulding County is marked by a lookout tower and a bench mark "York". It lies about a half mile east of the hamlet of Yorkville.

On the 1973 edition of the Yorkville topographic map, Yorkville is shown as being at the intersection of GA 101/113 with US 278/GA 6. However, the latter highway has been relocated several miles north in this area and is now a divided 4-lane highway. The former US 278 is now just a local road.

From the center of Yorkville, go east on the former US 278/GA 6 about 0.6 miles to where you will find a gated gravel road on your right (south). You can park here and walk up the gravel road. At the tower there were two small travel trailers, perhaps hunters' camps, but no one seemed to be in residence.
