Cedar County High Point Trip Report

Iowa has highpoints? Yup. Between Dubuque and Iowa City in eastern I-o-way, this single-area gimmee is located at a new house on a bluff.

From the intersection of IA 1 and US30, go 2 miles east on US30 to the small town of Lisbon. East of Lisbon, 3.2 miles from IA 1 and 1.2 miles from the Casey gas station (that's how you describe things in Iowa), turn left (north) on Adams Avenue. Go a half mile and go right (east) on 115th St., but after a quarter mile, turn left (north) again on Adams Ave. and go 1.5 miles. The road turns right (east) and becomes Cedar-Jones Road, named after the county line it follows. After 1 mile, the road veers right and becomes Badger Rd. (a road also veers left as Willow Rd.). After a half mile which follows the base of a bluff, watch for Charles Road on the right (south). At this point, a driveway on the left (north) goes up the bluff to an obvious house which is new and yellow. The HP is 200' behind the house near the fence line. A marker exists there along the fence which the owner, Mr. Andrews, admitted to whacking with his lawn mower. A deep blanket of snow prevented me from finding this marker (a BM?), so I suggest others go there in summer to find it.
