Crawford County High Point Trip Report

From US 30 just east of Westside, Iowa, turn right (south) on the county line road (Aspen in Carroll
County, and 400th Street in Crawford County). Proceed three miles south on this dirt road to the farm of
John Deser (2281 400th Street) on the right (west). If you come to an intersection with N Avenue, you've
gone too far south.
Ask for permission at the farmhouse to park your car in the yard and hike out into his field.
The high spot is roughly 0.25 mile west of his silo and farm buildings. Since the corn was over two
feet tall when I visited, I was lucky to find and visit this spot this late in the season. Try to visit when the
crops will not be an issue. I met John's son, Dan, and shared a topo map with him. He was not aware that
their farm sat on the county high point.
