Howard County Highpoint Trip Report

one unnamed area (1,410+ ft)

Howard County's highoint area is located in Section 18 of Oak Dale Township. I visited there on March 20, 2005. It is a trip two-fer with Mitchell county, which I had just completed.

From my parking spot just south of the farmplace nearest the Mitchell County High Point, I continued north on Addison and turned east (right) onto 25th St, for 0.65 mile.

I parked there just past the property line, about 0.3 mile from the highpoint.

Like Mitchell county, and others in the northern tier of counties, this trail was covered in deep snow, it being only 2 days after a heavy snowstorm that hit southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. I arrived at the summit in 20 minutes.

It was an unremarkable hill in a large, flat area, but definite, even in the moonlight.

While walking toward the high point, I could see the other side of the property line, and saw that there were several patches of bare ground, so I took that back to my car. It was a lot easier.

I completed this county in 41 minutes.
