Anyone attempting this must do Benewah and Kootenai counties together. The hike is simple and the drive is laborious. Bob Packard has the best approach for this. The last time I did this, I came from the south and would not recommend that unless someone wants a long hike. I am going to use Bob's write-up and make notes of any changes.

From I-90, Cataldo Exit 40 took Latour Road south about 9.5 miles to sign indicating way to Twin Crags. Go left here. You are then on unsigned FR 2309. The key move is 2.4 miles in on the Twin Crags Road where you need to go right (don't take the switchback which goes up to the left). At 2.8 miles, a road crosses a rock slide area and at 4.3 miles you come to a Y-shaped junction. You need to go to the left and up the switchback and do not continue straight. It is also signed here for Mirror Lake. Once you reach the saddle you will see Latour Peak to your left and the north and highpoint 6168 to the right and south, park here.

Follow the easy-to-see ATV trail to the top of Latour Peak and enjoy the spectacular view of Mirror Lake. Hike back down and follow the other ATV track to the Boundary County Liner, there are around 20 cairns on the ridge so grid it out and step it out.

Note: On the day we did this highpoint, the ATV traffic was immense and one ATVer had rolled his machine and punctured his lung and was flown out by helicopter. They used my cell phone.

Hike statistics: 4 miles round-trip; 600 ft + 300 ft elevation gain.
