Dekalb County High Point Trip Report

This county consists of a group of two areas near a radio tower, and a group of three areas about 6 miles to the south in farm fields.

I approached the first two areas from the north. From IL 38 and Willrett Road just west of Malta, head south on Willrett Road for 2.5 miles, pass over I-88, then another half mile to Gurler Road, where the pavement turns to gravel. Continue another 3 miles to Perry Road, make a right (west), go another mile to Tower Road, make a left (south). The massive tower will be clearly visible.

HP#1 is at the end of the driveway to the McIlrath's farm - the owners were friendly. HP#2 is shown just north of the radio tower and looked to be at the site of a lone tree at the edge of the fenced in pasture. There wasn't a clear line of sight to hand level the two points but I'd guess the area by the tower was a bit higher. Very nice views to the south.

For the other three areas, head south on Tower Road about 6 miles to US 30. Make a right(west) on US 30. I parked at nearby English Cemetery and hiked south to the HPs. The north-south fence line along which the points lie no longer exists - neither do the houses shown on the topo west of the cemetery. The HPs themselves are typically indistinguishable flatland HPs. The field was planted in soybeans this year.
