Mason County High Point Trip Report

Date: May 12, 2001
Author: Jon Mann

I hadn't planned on doing this Sangamon River Bluff highpoint, but was scouting for later, but when I saw a small parking area, and signs noting the bluff was owned by the Illinois Department of Conservation, and a trail leading from the parking area, I had to investigate. The trail system seems to go to both high points.

From IL 29, just north of town of Kilbourne, turn right on 700N, go east for 7.6 miles to Revis Springs Road. Turn right on Revis Springs Road 1.1 miles to Revis Bluff Road, turn left on Revis Bluff Rd. Proceed east 6/10 mile to parking area on left. The entire bluff area belongs to the Illinois Dept. of Conservation.

Proceed up trail from parking lot (trail starts on west side) to top of bluff, follow to small ridge with steep drop-off. This is the first area.

Follow the trail back into woods. You will cross a trail coming straight up a ravine - continue on the ravine trail until you come to wide (ATV) trail, turn right, follow trail to large open area with hay growing. This is the second area. The high ground appears to be in the small field near where you emerge from the woods.
