Owen County High Point Trip Report

This is a location that is hard to find because the roads are not well-signed and also because several new roads have been constructed in the area since the topo map was created. From the northern intersection of US 231 and Indiana 67, proceed north on US 231 past the small town of Carp. As you continue, watch for a new radio tower along the left side of the highway. After you pass the tower, watch for 850 W Road which goes off to the right (east). Turn right and go east on this road for three miles to an intersection with a dirt road (360 E Road). This is a new road which is not marked on the topo. Turn left, and go north on this road. You will be impressed by how steep this road is as it rises, falls, and rises again to a second hill. Stop near the top of this second hill, opposite a gate in the fence to your left. This is the field with the spot elevation of 934 feet.

I walked most of this field and found relative altimeter readings were at least four feet higher in the northern part of this field. This was a delightful place to visit. I saw a deer and little fawn as well as two turtles on this dirt road, so drive carefully.
