This is a route to the high point from the north or northeast. This is a fun trip cutting diagonally across the county and following the South Fork of the Republican River.

From the intersection of US 36 and Road 13 in St. Francis KS, zero odometer.

0.0 US 36 at Road 13 - go south on Road 13 which soon changes to Road N, heading west.
1.9 Road north turns to gravel - go straight ahead (west).
3.2 Name changes to Road M.
  7.2 Road J - continue west.
12.3 Y - keep left (south) to cross back to the south side of the Republican River.
13.6 Y - keep right (southwest) on Road 3.
14.5 Y - keep left (south) on Road 2.
17.5 T junction at Road D - go left (east).
17.8 Y - turn right (south), again on Road 2.
20.8 T junction at Road A - turn right (west). This is the Cheyenne/Sherman County line.
21.4 Crest in the road - park. You are there.

A slightly longer and less scenic but more straightforward route is from US 36 and State Highway 27, just east of St. Francis, KS. Go South on 27 for 10 miles to Road D (gravel). Turn right (west) on Road D and go 17 miles to Road 2. Joining the previous route, turn left (south), go 3 miles to Road A, turn right (west) and go 0.6 mile to the road crest.
