Laurel County Highpoint Trip Report

Date: May 27, 2006
Author: Ken Oeser

From Blackwater, we took the small road southeast that goes just north of the highpoint. The people in the last home on the right would not give permission to park at the end of the road where Levi began, so we backtracked west to the next house on the south side, a brick home, where a small valley heads due south.

We were granted permission to hike, and followed a dirt road all the way to the top, somewhat overgrown in a few spots, but not bad.

Birds seen were Ruffed Grouse, Cerulean Warblers and two Blue-Headed Vireos at the summit. Ovenbirds, Kentucky Warbler, Yellow-Breasted Chat, and Eastern Phoebe were seen along the trail.
