Orleans Parish Highpoint Trip Report

These three areas are located near the Mississippi River west of New Orleans's still-beautiful Garden District.

I accessed Area 1 by going west southwest on St. Charles Avenue to Napoleon Avenue. I turned south on Napoleon and eventually came to a gate and guard shack. The booth was manned; however, the guard was inattentive and never looked up as I drove past into the docks. I crossed some railroad tracks and then turned right. The highpoint area seemed to be near or under some buildings on the left side of the road. There were some fences around parts of the CoHP contour but there were ways around them. After exploring the busy area, I left the way I came without ever seeing any postings.

Area 2 is a large area that encompasses a very nice park on the Mississippi River. I accessed this area by turning left onto Tchoupitoulas from Napoleon Avenue and driving west to the end of the road at East Drive. I then turned left on East and crossed some railroad tracks before arriving at the large park. Future visitors should come into the park from the northwest side as East Drive is a one way road north (as someone kindly pointed out to me as I was driving south). The park has a bunch of weird little mounds that could be manmade.

My wife and I spent the better part of an hour strolling around the park and up and down the various mounds. I did not attempt to go up any of the manmade areas Andy martin mentions in his book although I asked a zoo worker about the 25-foot area north of the park inside the Audubon Zoo. He said that it is called "Monkey Hill" and is absolutely manmade.
