Vernon Parish High Point Trip Report

From Hornbeck, LA I went 1.25 miles southwest on LA 392 to intersection with LA473. Parked a short way west on 473 between that intersection and Pleasant View Baptist Church. Walked behind the church and north and west through the woods to the back yard of a house for the area with elevation 484 feet.

Drove 1.25 miles west on LA 473, then, just across the county line, south 1.1 miles on Twin Oaks Road (following a "Dead End" road at an intersection) to Robert's house. Robert said it was OK to walk up the road. Short bushwhack in pine and underbrush reaches a second 480+ ft area.

I thought at first I'd have trouble with the third area as map indicates military reservation and artillery range, but as DeLorme indicates the area appears now to be WMA. From Hornbeck, I took LA 392 4.5 miles east to end of pavement at information (wildlife, not military) sign and sharp right turn. I found other signs in the area with military themes, left I imagine when military turned area over. Then 3.5 miles east to an intersection on good gravel. I went 1.2 miles further past the intersection, then 0.2 mile north on extremely primitive road, to be driven no further, and hiked north up a ridge to the third area at (31° 20.003' N, 93° 16.235' W). Just before I got there I crossed a very good gravel road which I would have reached if I had driven further east before turning north.

NOTE: This is also a hp of Kisatchie NF.
