Cecil County High Point Trip Report

From the Harford HPs go back down MD 23 to MD 136 and head east. This gets a little tricky at the intersection with MD 24 where there is no sign telling you to go straight ahead to stay on 136, and there's no confirmation that that was the right choice for several miles. This eventually joins up with US 1 at Dublin, and you can also avail yourself of MD 440 as a shortcut around that intersection. In any event you will cross into Cecil County by taking Conowingo Dam across the Susquehanna, and MD 222 comes in from the south immediately east of the dam (this is your approach if coming from I-95).

A little further ahead, US 222 heads off to the north (right). The HP bump is approximately 2.7 miles ahead, just past Johnston's Liquor on the right. If you miss it, you can turn around in Rock Springs, just below the PA line).

As Glenn notes, there is a private home and cabinet shop on the right side of the road. The high ground is in the backyard of the former. I went up to the back door of the gun-cabinet shop and asked permission. The woman who came to the door didn't know anything about a survey marker, but let me walk around their backyard anyway. I didn't need to do too much of this. I saw no benchmark but the high ground is just past a trailer in the yard, not too far from the door. This jibes with Glenn's comment that it should be 200' or so east (he says north, but 222 runs north-south here) of the road. It's possible that it could be under the trailer.
