Eaton County Highpoint Trip Report

This summit area is in the middle of a cornfield and one I normally would not visit this time of year. However, I was here and I decided to make the trek. Follow previous directions to the farm field pull-off. Park here before the chain-gated farm lane that goes alongside the cornfield. Hike along the lane in an easterly direction, keeping your eyes on the corn. The high ridge will become apparent in about 1/10 mile as you look south toward the blue silo.

Hiking through corn is not generally difficult if you hike with the rows and only cross them when necessary. Use your hands to "part" the sea of corn leaves as you proceed. Crossing through rows is pretty easy if you choose some of the wider places where seed planting skipped or left an intentional gap.

I used my nose to steer me to the highest ground and I wandered around until I was satisfied I had adequately gridded the area. My GPS assisted in identifying the highest grounds.

My notes were saturated and so was I when I got done! The early morning dew and mist had given me a bath as I wiped the moisture from the leaves. I encourage others to visit this easily-identified HP in the off-farming season.
