Gogebic County Highpoint Trip Report

I followed John Mitchler's report from the last day of the last millennium for this CoHP. This is an interesting case of a sound-alike name. The road that John calls Bootleg Road in his report is signed as Boot Lake Road at its intersection with WI 17. This brings to mind another interesting case of the cemetery in western Minnesota, behind which lies the Polk CoHP. The topographic map has it as Freedom Cemetery but on the ground it is Fridheim Cemetery.

The state line is marked by a "Welcome to Ottawa National Forest" sign; south of the state line it is Nicollet National Forest. The high area is rather hummocky, probably a relic of a logging operation from a bygone era. Stand on all the relevant hummocks.
