Previous directions were adequate. I took the right turn at the intersection of
Majestic View Drive and Grand Summit Drive to wind my way up to the cul-de-sac.
The area is developing slowly and there is still only one home on the cul-de-sac
to the south. I parked on the north side near the gate across the road to the summit.
Of the 5 counties visited today, this was easily the favorite. It was a
(rather) steep road hike to the first of two summit areas. Once on top
views to the west were magnificent. On this clear day, you could see for miles.
Continue north along another sandy road that drops down to the saddle before you
reach area 2 in about 1/4 mile. My nose and GPS readings indicate area 2 to be
the highest. I found an old footing for something, probably part of the ski
lift operations. I scribbled down the inscription from the cement –
the contractors were proud of their accomplishment of pouring yards of
concrete on this one day.
The views along the hike to areas #2 -- and at area 2 itself -- were clear in
many places. Both areas are bald and open sandy hills that permit viewers to
look down to the roads below and in the distance.
