Iron County High Point Trip Report

Taum Sauk Mtn (1,772 ft)

Date: February 5, 2001
Author: Ron Tagliapietra

This was a repeat visit to this highpoint (first visited by me August 8, 1997) in Taum Sauk Mountain State Park, for the sake of Drew Fields.

From I-55 at Jackson (exit 99?), drive west 62 miles to Arcadia on SR 72. Continue about 2.5 miles further to county road CC. Turn right and drive almost 3 miles to a fork, where you should turn right. (If you go straight here, the road ends in 0.2 mile at an observation tower, which is worth visiting for the view.) Continue about 0.8 mile to the parking lot at the end of the road. Hike the paved trail for 0.2 mile to the highpoint.

A trail continues 1.2 miles further to Mina Sauk Falls, the highest waterfall in Missouri at 132 feet. However, it is usually dry during the summer.
