Monroe County High Point Trip Report

When approaching Monroe county, watch for horse-drawn vehicles. From the junction of US63 and BusUS63 south of Moberly, drive east on road NN. At the Randolph-Monroe county line, road NN makes a swing to the north. At a mile east of the county line, you are north of the Monroe hp, but the best parking place, about midway between points 840 and 803 on the topo, is northeast of the hp.

On the Saturday I was there, there was a steady stream of buggy traffic along road NN, as well as elsewhere in the area. It was easy to get involved in conversations with the friendly Amish folks. One young fellow asked about Amish areas in CO, but I wasn't much help to him on this. Several folks were quite interested in what I was doing and none saw any reason why I couldn't walk southwest across the horse pasture to the hp. The main problem was overly-friendly horses. They were just getting rested up for their next buggy-pulling job.
