First ascent
From US Hwy. 49 at Collins, MS, travel W on US Hwy. 84 ~ 13.9 mi. (passing through an intersection
with MS Hwy. 35 at 11 mi. en route) to the community of Mt. Carmel. Turn N off US 84 onto Clem Rd.,
signed "to Hwy. 541". Go 6 mi., and take the left when the road forks. Now, proceed another 1.5 mi. to
Sam Durr Rd., which will be your second left after the fork. Take that road west 2 miles, being careful of
several small intersections with no stop signs in any direction. At the "T"-intersection with Bass-Laird
Rd., turn right (N). The hp is ahead 0.6 mi.; look for the large twin oaks in the field to the left. Chicken
houses are seen beyond off to the west a half mi. or so. The fields are unposted, and ungated at the oaks.
The high ground is easy, a few hundred feet from the road across the hay-field,
manicured at this time of year.
