Warren County Highpoint Trip Report

Date: March 10, 2007

Warren County has four areas: two near Vicksburg and two in the backcountry twenty miles to the northwest.

From the intersection of I-20 and Vicksburg's Bypass 61 proceed north on Bypass 61 for about 0.6 mile. Turn left onto the side road off of Bypass 61. After a short distance, turn right at the "T" onto Beechwood. At 0.3 mile turn left at Culkin. At 0.1 mile is the first area on the left, Mount Ararat Church. Hilltop underwent some grading for the Church -- may no longer break the 400-foot contour.

For the second area, return to Bypass 61 and head north for approximately 1.3 miles to a major intersection: BK Bank on left and hospital on right. Turn left and after coming to a "T" with Sherman Road, highpoint will be directly ahead, up a small hill. Only the foundation of the structure shown on the topo remains.

For the third and fourth areas, starting again at the intersection of I-20 and Bypass 61, proceed north. At 14.5 miles bear right onto Highway 3 for 5.5 miles to Ballground Road. The following route may seem like a roundabout way to access the areas but other, closer, roads off of Highway 3 shown on the topos are closed-off.

Turn right onto Ballground Road for 3.5 miles. Left on Possum Hollow for 1.8 miles. Left on Bradley's Church Road (may be another name) for 2.7 miles. Third area is up a hill off to the left at a right hand bend in the road.

For the fourth area, continue another 1.0 mile. At a mailbox, signed "Russellville", turn right and enter between a carved out hill into a hunting camp community of trailers and buildings. No one there except a lone canine on guard duty. The high area appeared to be up to the left.
