Jefferson County Highpoint Trip Report

I did the "neat loop." It was neat. I even saw a mountain goat on my way out. I was following a game trail that went straight down a very steep gulch. I wasn't surprised to see the mountain goat grazing in the meadow below the gully. Only mountain goats would make a game trail that steep. I started on Elkhorn just semi-bushwhacking. Pretty much just pointed myself in the right direction according the GPS and did it. Crow is cool. I signed both registers and kept moving.

I did the round trip in 3 hours and 20 minutes. I did park up the road a ways, probably 1 1/2 to 2 miles beyond the old city, Elkhorn. I did see a new home being built there in Elkhorn. I got down the trail to the truck just as lightning started and rain started to fall. Fantastic trip. Very rocky and hard on the knees but well worth the hike.
