Judith Basin County High Point Trip Report

Big Baldy (9,175 ft)

Date: July 14, 2003
Author: Tim Worth

This easy, half-day hike is a good introduction to some of the cohps in central MT. I had camped in a remote area west of Big Baldy along FR 3328. This road is not shown on the topo but is shown on the Lewis & Clark Forest Service map. Near Chamberlain Creek I bushwhacked up the gentle west shoulder of Big Baldy, then to the rounded summit dome.

Antennas, metal FS register box, BM "Neihart 1960" at the top. Pretty good drop to the east. At the top I spoke to a local who had driven his dirt bike up there. He told me he drinks too much beer to do any more hiking to summits.

Trip statistics: Four miles and about 1,900 feet of elevation gain.
