Madison County High Point Trip Report

Mt Hilgard and Mt Koch

Date: Summer 1997
Author: Bob Packard

I had occasion to go into West Yellowstone to get information. Luckily I chanced upon a mountain climbing guide working in a sporting good store. She told me about the route on Hilgard then pleaded with me not to do it. She ended up convincing me that it was no place for me alone and that the summit area was extremely dangerous. I let it go. I don't think there's much doubt that Hilgard is higher than Koch. She said so. The Forest Service maps show Hilgard at 11316 and Koch at 11286.
