Trapper Peak (10,157 ft)

Date: July 2, 2000
Author: Edward Earl

From US 93 near Conner MT, about 75 miles S of Missoula, take MT-473 until a Forest Service sign between mile posts 11 and 12 announce the Trapper Peak turnoff. Shortly after the turnoff, a sign says it's 4 miles to the trailhead; it's actually a little over 6 miles. The straightforward trail climbs steadily though evergreen forests and emerges above treeline amid a broad, gently sloping boulder field. According to the USGS map, the trail goes all the way to the summit, but it actually fades away at the saddle between Trapper Peak and Peak 9928 1/2 mile to the east. From there it is a boulder scramble for the last 400' vertical.

The hike is 12 miles round trip with 3800' elevation gain.
