The color of a county corresponds to the altitude of its highpoint in feet:

Color-coded categories -

  Green - Less than 5,000

  Brown - 5,000 to 7,499

  Red - 7,500 to 8,999

  Orange - 9,000 to 9,999

  Yellow - 10,000 to 10,999

  Light Blue - 11,000 to 11,999

  Gray - Above 12,000
