From the junction of US Hwy221 and NC183 about a mile south of the Blue Ridge Parkway, go east on NC183 for 4.6 miles to a stop sign at NC181. Turn right and follow NC181 south for 1.9 miles and turn right onto Gingercake Road. Follow this road 0.2 mile and turn right onto Joe Johnson Street and follow it uphill 0.9 mile to the road crest to one of two houses.

The summit is in the woods on the right side of the road about 150 feet, about halfway between the houses. Nobody was home when we visited but it was a very short hike through the woods to the benchmark. In the front yard I heard and finally spotted a Chestnut-Sided Warbler, a first for me.
