Franklin County Highpoint Trip Report

three unnamed areas (560+ ft)

Date: June 2, 2006
Author: Fred Lobdell

Although this area is rapidly being developed, previous trip reports are still valid. We felt that the high ground was most likely in the large northern area, a short distance into the woods on the west side of NC 96. This area is between May Store Road on the north and Tom Linum Road on the south. There are large berms, rising more than 10 feet above the surrounding terrain, on the east side of NC 96 but these are obviously manmade. They were apparently raised in connection with the new development to the east of the highway, although what purpose they serve is unknown to us.
