Gaston County High Point Trip Report
The Pinnacle, Kings Mtn.

From I-85 go south on SC 161 and take the first main left shortly afterwards.
The Pinnacle is easily spotted. Proceed around the mountain and keep bearing left toward
Crowder Mtn. State Park. Go left at the park entrance and park by the trailer,
which is the information center (they are constructing a new one.) A map is available,
which shows the Pinnacle trail, which is not on the topo map. It is marked well with
orange markers and climbs 760' with some rock hopping at the very top. At the great view
the trail goes right to the HP with benchmark. I was worried that there was no easy access,
but graced out on this one with a nice trail. The park can be reached from turning south
from Main Street in Kings Mtn. (route 1118 on topo -- don't remember the street name) which
goes over I-85 with no interchange. If you can find this road it is a shorter drive to the park.
