Huckleberry Knob

The Overhill Skyway is a beautiful paved highway that reaches over 5300 ft.
in elevation crossing the Unicoi Mountains. It links Tellico Plains TN with
Robbinsville NC (TN 165 and NC 143). The road is only recently completed and
the signs at the overlooks remain empty but ready to receive view information.
Driving from NC to TN, the trailhead would be at a small parking area on the right.
The Huckleberry Trail leads about a half mile to the summit, which is a broad grassy bald
with beautiful views. Just before the campsite on the summit is a post marking the grave
of Andy Sherman. The south shoulder, a knoll which the trail crosses about half way offers
nice views of the summit. I also recommend nearby Hooper Bald for its great views.
