Access to the Skyway may be easier from TN but either way there is lots of slow,
twisty road to the trailhead. The Cherohala Skyway is posted for 30 mph as compared
to 45 mph on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The trailhead is at a paved parking area on the north side of the parkway at about
mile 8.6 east of the state line, or much farther from the Hooper Bald parking area
than I expected from previous descriptions.
According to the plaque, Andy Sherman died not on the summit but several miles away,
no idea why he was buried there.
