Guilford County Highpoint Trip Report

From what I can tell by the topo and current trip report, the HP is a tiny
sliver of a 1000-foot contour that extends ever so slightly over the Forsyth
county line, east into Guilford County.
Took NC150 northeast from Kernesville to what used to be a gravel road on the
topo just before the county line and described on the current posted TR; now it
is paved. This is Forsyth Road. Note that you will pass on the right
(if headed north) "County Line Road" before arriving here. County Line Road does
not follow or mark the county line but eventually crosses it further south and
is not near the HP. Forsyth Road is now paved (and recently so) and, a bit past
0.2 mile, a sign marks the Forsyth county line in the other direction and
pavement color/type changes. I parked here.
The topo puts the HP/contour right by the road, or very close. There is now a
house built here (as there are many new houses currently being built to the left
of it just inside Forsyth county). The right side of the yard of the newly-
completed (but not yet inhabited) house is where the county line runs. Based on
the topo, the line runs almost due north at about 1 degree. In the distance,
the county line sign on NC150 is visible to the north across the field.
This made it difficult to isolate the exact point, since the HP is not the top of a
contour but the highest point on just a slim section of it.
I walked the line in a grid in a brushy field back and forth twice, several
hundred yards north back to NC150 where the county line sign lies on that highway.
The 1010-foot contour just inside Forsyth county is obvious and the HP
would be on the line on the east slope of this hill coming down across the line.
The two or three buildings on or just near the 1010-foot contour just to the
west are no longer there and there is a brand new subdivision being built with
only a few houses up or started already (the reason the road is now paved).
This neighborhood has property-lot boundary stakes near or at the county line,
and most likely will not interfere with the HP in the future, other than the
fact that the house just to the left of the line on Forsyth Road likely leveled
out the true and topo HP. The highest point on the line I could tell now is
about halfway between Forsyth Road and NC150 but another high area 100 yards
north closer to NC150 looks very close. A new road created for the subdivision,
the first left on Forsyth Road, directly after a 90 degree left hand turn to the east,
is also a good access point, as its terminus is just short of the line and
about half way between Forsyth Road and NC150. No houses on this yet but many
lots marked.
Also of note, a hill/rise exists in the large field about 150 yards east of the
above-mentioned county line, halfway between Forsyth Road and a dirt road
leading off NC150 right at the county line sign. This appeared to be equal to
or higher than around the line and might be the HP now since a house/yard exists
that likely leveled the exact HP spot on the topo.  However, I did not hand level;
future visitors may want to wander over there just in case. This rise is
not evident on the topo.
