Haywood County High Point Trip Report

This is one tough hike. The trailhead at Cosby is ~2,400 feet. Mount Guyot is 6,621 ft which makes the total elevation gain over 4,200 feet. During the bushwhack from the AT to the Top of Guyot and Old Black I noticed that someone had put up some survey ribbon. For Mount Guyot the ribbon seemed to be put up at random and was of no help getting to the top or back down.

For Old Black it was a different story I followed the ribbon all the way to the top to a small cairn. On the way back down not far from the trailhead I saw two bears. If they had been hungry I would have made a nice easy meal for them.
