Mecklenburg County High Point Trip Report

My drive from TN to the Carolina beach was through rain about half the way - a preview of the weather we were going to have on the shore. On the way I had a rendezvous with Mecklenburg county, to conquer a summit that David Olson discovered that was 20' higher than the 870' peak I'd been to on my last visit.

The new location is off in the woods, and thus nicer than the backyard the old one was situated in. I paced 700' through a drizzle into the woods. A lane led along the first part. Some old lawn mowers and bikes are discarded in the woods. Along the hill crest are several prospect holes - perhaps for gold ? Several bumps vie for the HP. On one I built a cairn on top of a metal stand and placed an aluminum can register in it. Kids probably play back here, don't expect this odd cairn will last for long.
