Dundy County High Point Trip Report

Date: March 26, 2000
Author: John Mitchler

SW part of NE along CO state line, twenty miles from nowhere.

Approach this one from Colorado by taking CR PP north from US 34 in the town of Laird. CR PP goes 12.4 miles north, jogging around a bit and eventually turning into CR RR, until it comes to CR 46. Turn right (east) and go 1.3 miles to the CO-NE line and continue another half mile. The road turns right (south) for a half mile and then left (east) for a half mile. At that point you are in the center of section 14 and the road curves to the left and then right. Follow it for a good quarter mile and park at its highest elevation.

Follow the ridge northwest to a very distinct hill that is higher than anything around. We're talking 80' of gain here!

This range land has cactus and burdock and other things stickly. [Olson had reported that you can approach CR 46 from the north as follows: from US 6 at Holyoke, take US 385 south to CR 51 in Yuma Co. and go east 9.6 miles to CR RR, taking that 5.3 miles to CR 46].

Mitchler rating: B- (1 hill, minor gain, unposted range)
