Kimball County High Point Trip Report

Panorama Point (5,425 ft)

Date: April 7, 2002
Author: Ron Tagliapietra

This was my second visit to the privately-owned highpoint (first visited July 21, 1990) for the sake of my traveling companion, Drew Fields. However, this time I came in from the Nebraska side.

Exit I-80 at exit 8, and drive south 10 miles on CR 17 (gravel) to a T. Turn right and drive 4.2 miles on CR 8. Turn left on CR 9 and drive a mile. Turn right on CR 6 and drive 2 miles. Turn left on CR 5 and drive 2 miles to the registration gate. Pay the small fee in the envelope provided, and drive through the gate onto the bison ranch. When we were there, bison had gathered on the road and blocked the way. After waiting 10 minutes, we left. Just outside the gate, I realized that I should have crept forward slowly. So we went back and tried it. It worked. We followed the dirt road west 1 mile, and then north one-third mile to the monument on the hp.
