Merrimack County Highpoint Trip Report

Mount Kearsarge

This one was fine until I got to the gate of Rollins SP and determined it was
"Closed for the season". Since my math indicated I was about 3.6 miles and 1550
feet of elevation from the upper parking lot, I grumbled under my breath, put on
my boots, packed my gear, and headed up the paved road. Realize here that last
week someone who lived in the general vicinity had told me about all of the ice
and snow that were on the NH mountains and you will see why I had the heavy
boots and the crampons. With the actual lack of snow, sneakers would have been
a better solution. On the plus side, I saved the $3 admission fee and saw a
porcupine.
Otherwise I just put my head down and kept at it. Two hours later I'm standing
on top admiring the 360-degree view. It was a shade overcast but I could see a
number of famous points.
Back down the same way in 1:25.
