Easiest: Take the Mountainside Ave. exit off NJ 17, pick up Stag Hill Rd. from the north end of the truck park off the southbound side of rte. 17, and set trip odometer to zero. Road climbs steeply and enters Silver Lake community. Pass Silver Lake at 2.2 miles. Go left on Mountain Road at 2.5 miles, pavement ends at 2.6 miles, pass last house at 2.8 miles, and continue on good dry weather gravel road, always staying under utility poles, to large stone ruins at about 3.5 miles. From here, follow jeep road to summit, about a ten minute walk, still under utility poles. Large microwave installation at summit, but highest point is outside the fence. Gain: 200 feet

Alternate: From NY 17, follow signs for Hillburn, and turn onto 6th street at traffic light. Take 6th street uphill to dead end. Park off side of road, not in the obvious but prohibited parking area. Hike paved road past north side of Hillburn Reservoir, which deteriorates into bad jeep road. Go left at t-intersection with another jeep road, and eventually intersect utility poles mentioned above. Continue under poles to summit. Mark the spot where you intersected the utility poles, as there is a maze of similar looking jeep roads in the area. Gain: 600 ft. Time: 45 minutes to summit.
