Chaves County High Point Trip Report

One Tree Peak (7,089 ft)

Date: December 23, 2001
Author: Ken Akerman

I used John Mitchler's trip report as my main reference. However, please note that both sides of the sign for Sunflower Canyon that John describes have fallen off the post, so it took some extra time for me to find the trailhead. It was getting dark while I was searching for the trailhead, but I found it by about 5:30 p.m. Therefore, armed with my GPS, I decided to tackle this one in the nighttime, because it didn't seem to be too long or difficult.

I did get to the summit of the peak, going to a wrong (lower) summit at first before ascending to the correct summit. I signed the register and made my GPS recording - (32° 43' 9.4" N, 105° 19' 49.2" W).

I efficiently navigated back to my SUV and began driving to my next destination.
