Easy one-mile round-trip hike on road and closed jeep trail.
Take US 60 in Soccorro; go 16 miles west to signed Water Canyon Road. At Water Canyon Campground,
turn left and continue up FR 235 to gate below summit.
Notes
FR 235 is gravel and steep but passable in passenger car. Also, summit is part of
Langmuir Lightning Laboratory. Essentially, the entire top of the mountain is a giant lightning rod,
with metal mesh over the ground surface to draw current. Stay away during storms!
Hike statistics: 1.0 mile round trip, with 300 feet of elevation gain.
