Nye County High Point Trip Report

Mount Jefferson - south summit (11,941 ft)

Date: July 5, 2002

Comments on Scott Surgent's excellent report: Meadow Canyon Road is taken for 7.5 miles to the Y-junction and the sign for Jefferson Summit. Then it's another 1.4 miles to the saddle. With 4WD, I was able to drive the track road north toward the summit, passing Scott's "knoll" at 0.5 mile, then pushing quite a bit further up to about 9400 feet. When a fence line appears to your right, look for an opening and pass through to the right (east) side of the fence. The road on that side is less steep and more level than the "main" road to the left (west) side. Drive until the road peters out.

About a third of the way up the hike I met Jobe Wymore, who had summited and was descending. He graciously agreed to hike back up to keep me company, and we had a great hike together. See the BM and register at the summit with several familiar names.
