Cattaraugus County Highpoint Trip Report

USGS BM Clare (2,430 ft)

Date: August 5, 2007
Authors: SueAnn Miller and Frank Price

Just some quick updates to previous reports, which are still accurate. We saw many more Posted and No Hunting signs than mentioned in the earlier reports. There were also many metal pole gates painted bright yellow and closed across all woods roads leading off either side of Chipmunk Road. Some gates were unlocked but Posted signs flanked entrances. Phoning the sawmill, Chipmunk Forest Products, at 716-945-1006 might be informative. The adjacent road that Fred Lobdell used by bushwhacking from the sawmill is well traveled but gated and posted. There are many new homes (some McMansions) along West Branch and Richards Road, and 2, perhaps new, camps are right at the gate and posted signs at the end of Richards Road. Consulting the homeowner at the end of West Branch Road appears to offer the most legal and only unposted approach.
