Greene County High Point Trip Report

Hunter Mtn (4,040 ft)

Date: November 23, 2001
Author: Ken Akerman

I began this hike at the Devil's Path trailhead, beginning at the south end of Notch Lake off the west side of New York State Route 214. The trailhead elevation is about 1,800 feet. From here, I hiked on this trail for 2.15 miles to the Hunter Mountain Spur Trail, then 1.6 miles on the Spur Trail to the top of Hunter Mountain. These trails are marked by blue and yellow blazes, respectively.

The summit of Hunter Mountain has a cabin and a fire tower. From the summit of Hunter, I hiked 0.4 mile back on the Spur Trail to the Becker Hollow trail, then hiked down this trail for 2.05 miles back to SR 214, descending a steep 2,200 feet along the way. After reaching SR 214, I walked south along the road for 1.6 miles to my vehicle. My total hiking distance to ascend Hunter Moutain and return was about 7.8 miles.
