five areas on Harbor Hill (360+ ft)

Coming east from the Queens highpoint, take the Grand Central Parkway/Northern Parkway to exit 28 and work your way north to Harbor Hill Road. A good street map will help a lot. From Harbor Hill Road, take Ash Drive steeply uphill into a housing development. Of the two large contours on both sides of Ash, the southern one is clearly higher. Its highpoint is at the rear of #50 Ash Drive. The two small contours are behind #45 and #60 on opposite sides of Redwood Drive. Each requires a short walk to the bump.

We accessed the one behind #60 from the side street, Linwood Drive, along a property line. House #45 was under major renovation and unoccupied at the time. The final area, off Redwood Drive at the water tank, is on public land.

one area 1800 feet east of the Wheatley Road/Whitney Lane intersection (360+ ft)

See my report of January 2000. In addition to visiting the large beech tree at #47, we checked out a lawn edge further east and another beech at the next house west. Take your pick.
