Lanny Wexler led a hike for his local hiking club on January 2, 2005 to Jayne Hill - at 401 feet, one of the possible highpoints for Suffolk County (note the spelling as "Jayne" and not "Janes" as per the sign (see photo 3). All text and photos are courtesy of Lanny.

Jayne Hill is located in West Hills County Park, a mere 35 miles from Manhattan and less than one mile from a shopping mall.

This highpoint was frequented by poet Walt Whitman who was born and lived his early life at the base of Jayne Hill. The name "Paumonak" was the Indian word for "Long Island".

Suffolk County is the birthplace of the American cowboy.
